Located in the older part of Bhubaneswar city are centuries-old temples known for their architectural splendour. Odisha Tourism (odishatourism.gov.in) organises a three-day dance festival at the 10th century Mukteshwara Temple, known for its sculptural beauty, to highlight the state’s very own classical dance, Odissi. At the Mukteswar Dance Festival Classical dancers portray the various nuances of Odissi while the musicians who accompany them show their prowess in the playing of traditional instruments. In 2017, the festival will be held from January 14-16.

Between January 18 and 20, 2017, the Rajarani Temple, sometimes referred to as Odisha’s Khajuraho, will hold its annual classical music programme. Leading classical vocalists and musicians participate in the Raja Rani Music Festival, organised by the state tourism board. The 10th century temple, located in the older part of Bhubaneswar, is built of a reddish golden sandstone found locally and called ‘rajarani’.
