OT: Your favourite destination in the world? Priyanka Chopra: Home! I’m hardly there. But seriously, I can never
OT: What does a vacation mean to you?
Priyanka Chopra: It’s strictly for rejuvenation, for me-time. Or if I am lucky to have my family with me, it’s about having lots of fun together. I love exploring new places and, thankfully, my job gives me ample opportunity to travel. Holidays also mean stepping out of my workwear and being myself — you’ll only find me in a pair of basic blue jeans and a white T-shirt with no make-up. It’s a refreshing change.
OT: Any memorable work holidays?
Priyanka Chopra: Shooting for Dostana was less like work and more like a vacation. It was so much fun. We were in Miami for two full months and I was so fresh and rested when I came back. It was like a really relaxed holiday. And it helped that everybody on the crew got along so well with each other. Each of us connected at a deeper level. I also loved Brazil when I shot there for Khatron Ke Khiladi because I had never been there and always wanted to see that part of the world.
OT: Are you a souvenir hunter?
Priyanka Chopra: I love picking up trinkets. I remember buying a prized lava [rock] ring while shooting at Miami.
OT: You never forget to pack…
Priyanka Chopra: My laptop. I have to stay in touch. Besides, it has plenty of important data, my photos, my music… I also always pack at least four pairs of sunglasses, loads of sunblock, some books and my watch.
OT: Any anecdotes?
Priyanka Chopra: Oh yes, plenty. I had once gone to Phuket with my friends and we were making sandcastles on the beach and suddenly this man started yelling — “Mimi, Mimi”, which is my pet name. I had taken great pains to organise a trip to a place where I thought nobody would recognise me, and here I was being hollered at from across the beach. I ducked behind one of my friends. Later though, another friend of mine told me how Mimi was a common name in Thailand. And the man was just calling out to his daughter!
OT: One place you’ve longed to visit?
Priyanka Chopra: Now that I have crossed Brazil off my wishlist, it will have to be Mexico. I can’t wait to get there.
