OT: Which is your favourite hotel in the world?
Gary Kirsten: I have been very fortunate
OT: When did you last visit and for how long?
Gary Kirsten: I was fortunate to have been there recently and stayed for seven days in April while on a business trip.
OT: What makes it special to you?
Gary Kirsten: The Taj has so much history and has been through many challenges over the past decades. It has wonderful character and beautiful architecture. Although it is an older hotel, it still offers so much to the modern traveller, and overlooking the magnificent Gateway of India makes it one of the most picturesque hotels in the world. I have really enjoyed the service and décor. They are authentically Indian and always of the highest quality. It is like no other hotel in the world and always so welcoming.
OT: What’s a must-do when you’re there?
Gary Kirsten: The food is exceptional and I always enjoy the tandoori chicken served with lemon drinks on the terrace by the pool.
OT: Any other fond memories?
Gary Kirsten: This is where Team India were staying during the Cricket World Cup finals in 2011. After winning the final match, we all came back to the hotel and enjoyed a memorable evening, celebrating.
OT: Do you intend to visit again soon?
Gary Kirsten: I hope to be back in India again soon and will definitely be looking to stay at the Taj Mahal Palace, or any of the hotels within the Taj group.
