OT: Your favourite hotel in the world? Akshay Kumar: I like places that have
OT: What’s so great about it?
Akshay Kumar: The Whistler is huge — not only in acreage, but it also has glaciers and a towering vertical rise. The experience of the wind in your face and the overwhelming feeling of sheer joy that comes with the 360-degree views from the mountaintops… Even for those who are not hardcore adrenaline junkies, this place has many options. They have a peak-to-peak gondola ride: don’t try to hold your breath the whole way! The glass-bottomed cars help you take in the 436m-high views.
OT: So outdoors awesome; what about indoors?
Akshay Kumar: The hotel is very well designed. There are a lot of rustic features, with wood, stone fireplaces, and so on. There is a huge outdoor pool and several outdoor hot tubs, and they are all heated so you can use them in the dead of winter.
OT: Did you eat well?
Akshay Kumar: The best bit is that the incredible views are paired with incredible eating options. We tried Whistler Mountain’s Roundhouse Lodge and Blackcomb Mountain’s glass-walled Rendezvous Lodge. I used to look forward to the breakfast as they have a nice selection of juices. I relished their caramelised cauliflower and pancetta and I found the banana cream pie with caramel sauce and crunchy pearls irresistible.
OT: Is it a family favourite?
Akshay Kumar: Yes, and I found the place very child-friendly — they had no problems with kids running around in their ski boots. The staff brought out hot chocolate with marshmallows for my son while he was paddling in the hot tubs — and he was quite thrilled.
