Cape Town’s Belmond Mount Nelson recently launched a Memories of Mandela package on the occasion of the launch of Dare Not Linger: The Presidential Years, sequel to Mandela’s Long Walk to Freedom. It includes a copy of Dare Not Linger, a three-course meal inspired by Nelson Mandela’s favourite dishes such as oxtail soup and Farida Omar’s chicken curry with samosas and roti, served in Planet Restaurant, adjacent to the room where Mandela enjoyed a meal or two.

You could also meet Christo Brand at the hotel and listen to his stories about the time he spent with Mandela. He was one of the guards responsible for looking after Mandela when he was incarcerated on Robben Island.

You can also reserve a two-hour story-telling walk with a Footsteps to Freedom guide and  visit local related to the founding father of South Africa. Places that will be visited include Tuynhuis, St George’s Cathedral, Parliament and the City Hall.

The package is available from October 19, 2017 until October 19, 2018 from R11800 for two nights, two people sharing, including breakfast as well as the three-course dinner of Nelson Mandela’s favourite dishes and a copy of Dare Not Linger. The one-hour with Christo Brand at the hotel can be arranged at a cost of R1250 (subject to availability) and the two-hour Footsteps to Freedom walk will cost you R1250.
