Pan Pacific’s Myanmar coup is the big opening of the year in Burma’s new and ancient capital.

The Parkroyal Nay Pyi Taw is the first international hotel brand in the city (and it was already in old capital Yangon), so it can afford to rest on its laurels a little. So the beautifully landscaped 180-room property is only half open for business — 90 rooms up and running, with the rest to be added later in the year. It’s near the international convention centre and seat of government, Gems Museum and water fountain garden, and despite that, manages to offer free parking for 24 hours!

Its older sister in Yangon is being freshened up for the season too, and there’s a younger sibling in the offing in 2017 — the country’s first Pan Pacific, with 348 rooms, to come up opposite Yangon’s Bogyoke Aung San Market.
