The Hornbill Festival, Nagaland

The Hornbill festival has been named after the Indian Hornbill, the huge and multicolored forest bird that is an integral part of the legends of most of the tribes from Nagaland. The Hornbill festival, which is held in the first week of December every year, will start from December 1 this year. The festival showcases cultural traditions of Nagaland – through dance and music – to tourists and visitors – for a better understanding of the lives of the people in Nagaland.  There are also traditional arts that are on display, such as wood carving, sculptures and paintings.

All visitors, including Nagas, who have been abroad in the past few months, will undergo a screening for the Ebola virus.
