Do not miss the sound and light show if you are visiting Bhubaneswar in Odisha. The state’s first light and sound show has started at the Dhauli hill, easily identified by the Shanti Stupa at the top. It was here that a bitter battle was fought between the Mauryan emperor Ashoka and the ruler of Kalinga (the earlier name of Odisha). The Daya river turned red with the blood of slain soldiers. The sight moved the emperor and he converted to Buddhism. The Ashokan edicts, the peace pagoda built by the Japanese and the Daya river flowing below today attract a large number of tourists. Now, the state tourism department has started a light and show here. The 30-minute show describes the mighty Kalinga empire, the war and the transformation of King Ashoka. Kabir Bedi (English), Om Puri (Hindi) and Bijay Mohanty (Odia) have lent their voices to the presentation. The show will be held on all days except Mondays, There will be two shows (7pm and 7:45pm) and the entry charges are Rs 25 for general visitors and Rs 10 for bona-fide students.
