Physically challenged individuals have not been a priority group for India’s tourism sector, but things could be changing. After excellent examples internationally, India is set to have its first disabled-friendly beach at Tithal in Gujarat. Work on a one-kilometre stretch of the beach with disabled-friendly facilities has commenced and is scheduled to open for public use shortly. Ramps and railings will lead up from the parking area to the beach while other areas, from washrooms to the food court, will be accessible for those who use wheelchairs.
