The annual carnival (officially called the Goa Carnaval) organised by Goa Tourism, is a celebration of Goa’s Portuguese legacy, through colourfully decorated floats, foot-tapping music, food festivals and the King Momo contest, will take place between February 14 and 17, 2015.  The carnival was introduced by the Portuguese, who ruled Goa for over four centuries. The inauguration will be at Panjim, where King Momo will pronounce his reign over Goa for the next three days at the first parade of the carnival. As the first day of the festival coincides with the universally celebrated Valentine’s Day, the carnival’s themes will revolve around ‘Cupid and Love’. Goa Tourism is also working around themes like ‘Love Goa’ and ‘Celebrate with Goa’. Major Goan cities – Margao, Vasco, Mapusa and Ponda – will also host the four-day festivities. Cultural programs and dances will also be organized across the state.
