Live in the city, visit once in a while, barely been here, or never been here (and never want to), it doesn’t matter. Everyone knows Delhi. Which means that everyone will have noticed that something’s changed: most strikingly, that there’s no longer any confusion about which the best city in the country is — the most historically rich, the greenest, the most important and, yes, the most cosmopolitan. After years of struggling with an image problem, the debate has finally been put to rest. Or perhaps more accurately, is finally being put to rest. 

Delhi’s past was always exciting, but it’s the present continuous that’s fascinating. And the future, of course. After the dust settles on the graveyards that the Metro construction has made of Delhi’s roads, after the Yamuna stops rising dangerously, after the ‘killer’ Blueline buses finally stop plying, after the Games…
