With the June 17 inauguration of the Kochi Metro, Kerala’s historically rich city of Kochi has now become far more accessible and navigable. The Metro’s first line took nearly four years to complete, a record in comparison to other metro systems in India. While the total proposed length is 26km, 13km of it is currently operational and connects the suburb of Palarivattom with Kochi’s second biggest sub-town, Aluva. Another unique feature of the Kochi Metro is that it is the first such system to connect road, rail and water transport facilities. Fares range from 10 to 40, depending on the distance travelled.
