This is for those who love to combine a chilly winter morning with some heritage hopping.. YES Institute-YES Culture is organising a heritage walk around Purana Qila on January 21, 9.00AM. A part of YES Culture’s Heritage Walk initiatives around New Delhi, this is a great way to get to know this sprawling fortress. Although the present remains of the fort date back to the 16th century when the fort was raised by Sher Shah Suri and his son, the site itself is of immense historical importance. Once, the Yamuna used to flow right beside it, and historical records have been found of constant occupation of the site by the Mauryas, Kushanas, Guptas, the Delhi Sultanate and the Mughals. The ASI Museum at the fort is a great place to spend some time in. Among the monuments within the fort, one of the most important ones is the Mughal Emperor Humayun’s private library, from which he fell to his death in 1556.
