The second Uttarakhand Spring Bird Festival is being organized from February 4 – 8, 2015, to draw visitors for bird watching in Uttarakhand. The festival is a great occasion for the local people as well as tourists to learn about bird conservation and rural tourism and enjoy the outdoors. According to the State Forest Department data, Uttarakhand has a remarkable bird diversity with 687 bird species, representing more than half the avifaunal diversity of India.The festival will be organized at the Pawalgarh Conservation Reserve situated close to Kaladhungi/ Ramnagar in Nainital district of Uttarakhand. Guided bird-watching will be conducted at Kyari, Sitabani, Pawalgarh and at Kaladhungi. The festival activities will be conducted at the Centre for Ecotourism at Chunakhan near Bailparao. Besides guided bird watching, the festival will also include demonstration of equipment and activities, rural tourism mart, vendors, food stalls, local handicrafts, bird photography, workshops, lectures, film shows, popular activities based on birds (book reading, quiz, etc.) and cultural performances.
