It’s hard to please everyone, especially when a group includes a serious birder (in Bharatpur!) and a five-year-old, each with his own unbending idea of a holiday. But Birder’s Inn held its own, even on one of the busiest weekends of the year (Republic Day). With a handful of well-appointed, clean rooms in two double-storey wings flanked by a pool and a garden (also used for sunny brunches and bonfires), the hotel has a boutique-on-a-budget air about it. The food’s pretty good too. But of all the feathers in its cap, the most important one is that it’s a sneeze away from the main gate of the Keoladeo Bird Sanctuary, Bharatpur’s best and brightest bird. Tariff: from Rs 2,400.
