Madhya Pradesh established itself as the leading state in the tourism sector at the recently held National Tourism Awards in the state capital. The state won 5 awards including the best tourism state award, an award for turning Amarkantak, a pilgrim’s destination to a disabled friendly one, one for conducting the best heritage walks and another for launching the most innovative and unique tourism project.

Brimming with rich historical heritage, religious places, national parks and eco-tourism spots, the state tourism authorities recently converted all its temples at Amarkantak to disabled friendly destinations. Notice boards and signages were put up for blind people in Braille, wheel chairs were made available in addition to the disabled-friendly toilets as a part of the drive. The state tourism authorities have also developed several paths in and around Bhopal that showcase the rich architecture and history of the city
